The 5 Steps of Right Foot Touring

  • Planning

First, let me know your travel dates, interests and available time. We can then speak by phone for 5-10 minutes so as decide together whether it’s better for you to have your private the Right Foot Paris Tour on your first and/or second day in Paris.

Day 1: Some travelers want to go Right Footing for 4 to 6 hours on their arrival day (Day 1) so as to get their bearings straight from the start.
Day 2: Others prefer settling in on their own on Day 1 before setting out with me for 6 or 8 hours of Right Foot Touring on Day 2.
Day 1 and 2: Many enjoy the meet-and-greet aspect of a few hours of easy-going Right Footing on Day 1, followed by more extensive Right Footing on Day 2.

Learning more about your travel party by phone in advance and during the tour itself will allow me to create the personalized Right Foot explorations and other private Paris tours that are most appropriate for you.

  • Setting out

I’ll meet you in Paris at your hotel or apartment to set off, right foot forward. In exceptional cases I can meet you at the airport (additional cost) with a car service for a VIP welcome, followed by several hours of touring.

  • Sights and neighborhoods

As with all my tours, there is no set itinerary until I first get a sense of your travel party and what neighborhood you’ll be staying in. Then, through sights, stories, exceptional views, unexpected insights, and perhaps a pastry or a glass of wine, this tour will help you get your historical, logistical, cultural and culinary bearings.

If this is your first time to Paris, or if it’s been many years since you visited, we’ll start with a walking tour of the historic heart of Paris (the City Island and views of Notre-Dame [closed for restoration]) before radiating out from there to some of the highlights and neighborhoods of the central Right and/or Left Bank. Where exactly I take you will depend on the amount of time you’ve selected for Right Foot Touring. On the Right Bank this may include some combination of City Hall, the Louvre from the outside, Place Vendome, Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries Garden, Palais Royal. On the Left Bank, the Latin Quarter, the Pantheon, the Luxeumbourg Garden, the Saint Germain Quarter.

Other itineraries are possible so as include major monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe or neighborhoods such at the Marais. This will depend on where you’re staying.

The Right Foot is not a highlights-only tour but rather an introduction to history, life and lifestyle in Paris through its central historical neighborhoods.

  • Culinary pleasures

Since getting off on the right foot means gaining insight into the culinary pleasures of Paris, we will also make a nice lunch stop at a local café, brasserie or creperie—or, weather permitting, stop at a local food market for an impromptu picnic. This is the occasion to learn the difference between a café, a bistro, a brasserie, and other types of eateries to high gastronomy, how to tip in France and other helpful cultural tidbits to ensure you can navigate the Paris gastrosphere on your own. Be sure to bring any restaurant lists that you may have compiled if you’d like my advice on the subject. More extensive culinary and wine touring are best reserved for subsequent days, as described here.

  • Your further plans

All Right Foot Tours include a 30-minute (or so) café or wine bar sit-down consultation before, during or after the tour so that I can advise you planning DIY touring and private Paris tours, as well as your excursions outside of Paris.

The cost

  • Fees

The fees indicated concern a private Right Foot Tour for 2 people, starting at your hotel or apartment. Beyond 2 adults, add 30€ per person 16 and older, 20€ per child 15 and under. Inquire for travel parties of more than 5 people (adults and children).

    Planning + 30-minute sit-down consultation + 4 hours of touring: 400€.
A meet, greet and walking tour that is the perfect start for those arriving in Paris from overseas in the morning or early afternoon.

    Planning + 30-minute sit-down + 6 hours of touring: 480€.
If Day 2, a wise choice when traveling with children under 12, though in my experience they’re thrilled enough by what they hear, see and taste during the tour that they can certainly go longer.

    Planning + 30-minute sit-down + 8 hours of touring: 540€.
The perfect full-day tour if meeting on the day following your arrival in Paris.

Recommended time: If you take this tour on your arrival day then I recommend a 4-hour or 6-hour options. If on Day 2 of your stay in Paris than the 6-hour or 8-hour options are more appropriate. The preferred approach for many clients is a 4-hour or 6-hour tour on their arrival day followed by a full-tour the next day. This is especially the case for those visiting Paris for less than four full days who are looking to maximize their explorations of Paris sights and culture.
